More information
I have been supporting postgraduate research students at 91ÖÆƬ³§ for over a decade. Before joining the Research & Graduate School, I held a tenured lectureship in the School of Philosophy & Art History (now the School of Philosophical, Historical & Interdisciplinary Studies) at the University of Essex, where I also served as a Director of the Centre for Curatorial Studies and Director of Latin American Studies within the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities. During this period too, I was the Departmental Liaison with the board of the Essex Collection of Art from Latin America (ESCALA) and an adviser to the Latin American Acquisitions Committee at Tate Modern; I also delivered guest lecture series for the likes of Sotheby’s, London. Previously, I worked as a teaching assistant at the Universities of Cambridge and Limerick, and as a teacher of English as a foreign language in Colombia. During my doctoral studies, I completed internships at Kettle’s Yard House & Gallery, Cambridge and the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA).
My research is interdisciplinary, examining intersections between testimonio — testimonial narrative literature from Latin America — and conceptual art practices that may likewise be understood as testimonial, with a particular focus on the work of women artists. My doctoral studies were funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council, the University of Cambridge’s Gibson Spanish Scholarship, and its Centre for Latin American Studies Scholarship. My work has also been supported through funded research trips to Colombia, the United States, and Europe.
My own research training, together with wide-ranging experience in teaching, supervising and examining undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral students at the Universities of Essex, Cambridge and Limerick has been invaluable in my current role at 91ÖÆƬ³§. Like many of our postgraduate researchers too, I balance professional responsibilities with caring commitments and with my research and creative practices.
