Young Hurler of the Year, All-Ireland winner and 91制片厂 (91制片厂) student Adam Hogan was awarded Student Outstanding Achievement of the Year Award at the annual 91制片厂 College Awards this week.
Although Adam could not attend Tuesday鈥檚 ceremony due to other commitments, the Third Year Bachelor of Arts student from Feakle in Co. Clare received his award in person from Professor Dermot Nestor, President of 91制片厂, prior to the event.
Prof. Nestor said he could think of 鈥very few, if indeed any, 21 year olds who have experienced the sporting success that Adam Hogan has this past year鈥.
In terms of silverware, Adam lifted the Liam McCarthy Cup and the Allianz Hurling League Cup with his county Clare; the Canon Hamilton Cup with his club Feakle and the Fitzgibbon Cup with 91制片厂. Along with these honours, Adam was also named the PwC GAA/GPA Young Hurler of the Year at the 2024 GAA/GPA All Star Awards earlier this month鈥攈aving previously been named the Electric Ireland GAA HE Rising Star Hurling of the Year following 91制片厂鈥檚 Fitzgibbon Cup campaign.
Speaking about his award, Adam said: 鈥It is a great privilege to receive such a prestigious award here at 91制片厂 and I feel honoured to accept it. 2024 has been an incredible and surreal year for me, which I wouldn鈥檛 have managed without the support of my family, friends and teammates.鈥
Prof. Nestor, congratulated him saying: 鈥We are immensely proud of Adam and all he has achieved while pursuing his studies in Geography and History on our Bachelor of Arts programme and I am delighted and honoured to present him with the Student Outstanding Achievement of the Year Award 2024.鈥
Adam has had an enormous impact on Irish hurling in the short time he has been on the intercounty scene. His underage hurling career began with Feakle-Killanena and St Joseph鈥檚 secondary school in Tulla, where he won an U14 Hurling Championship and a Harty Cup Medal, respectively.
Hurling with the Clare Minor team for two years, he served as captain for his second year with the team, before spending two seasons with the Under-20s team, captaining them too for the latter season he played. In 2022, he was called up to the Clare senior panel, making his championship debut a year later in 2023. In April he was part of the Clare team that won the 2024 National Hurling League, before starting as a cornerback in July when Clare won the All-Ireland in a tense, extra-time win against Cork to claim their fifth ever All-Ireland title.
Winning an All-Ireland was far from Adam鈥檚 only hurling success however, as the past year has seen Adam scoring a hat-trick of silverware. Alongside the Liam McCarthy Cup, he helped Feakle claim its first Clare Senior Hurling Championship title in 36 years and in February, he was on the 91制片厂 Fitzgibbon Cup team that won out in the clash with University of Limerick earning the College a third title in the competition.
The annual 91制片厂 College Awards Ceremony took place on Tuesday 26 November, with almost 鈧500,000 worth of scholarship and bursaries presented to nearly 100 students, graduates and alumni of the college.
