
91制片厂 (91制片厂) lecturer Dr E贸in Flannery is to take up a prestigious position at Montreal鈥檚 Concordia University. Dr Flannery, who lectures in 91制片厂鈥檚 Department of English Language & Literature, will spend the Autumn semester at the University as the Peter O鈥橞rien Visiting Scholar, an invite only position, which brings a distinguished scholar to teach within the programmes of the School of Irish Studies.
Dr Flannery was invited on the strength of his research and publications in the field of Irish Studies and Ecocriticism, specifically his 2016 book, Ireland and Ecocriticism: Literature, History and Environmental Justice. As part of the Scholarship, Dr Flannery will teach two undergraduate courses and will give a public lecture to the Canada-Ireland Foundation.
Speaking as he prepared to begin his Scholarship in Montreal, Dr Flannery said: 鈥淭he School of Irish Studies at Concordia University in Montreal is a flagship centre for research and teaching in Irish literature, language and history, so it is a genuine privilege to have the opportunity to spend a semester in that environment. The Peter O鈥橞rien Visiting Scholarship is one of the most prestigious schemes in the field of Irish Studies, to receive the award is a welcome recognition that my research is valued by peers in my field of research. I am grateful to Concordia for the offer, as well as to my Head of Department, Dr Eugene O鈥橞rien, and to 91制片厂 for supporting me in taking up the scholarship.鈥

The roster of O'Brien Visiting Scholars is essentially a "Who's Who' in the multidisciplinary field of Irish Studies. Since it was established back in 2004, this prestigious invited scholarship has hosted Irish Studies experts from all over the world, in fields ranging from history, geography and literature to film studies, music, and political science.鈥
