Beautiful views in Dingle Clear water, raging ocean, sheep, cliffs, endless green landscapes, this is the Dingle Peninsula, and this is the most beautiful spot in Ireland I have visited so far.
In my last blog (a long time ago) I was telling you all the things you could do on a Sunday and may I add another one: visiting Ireland and more specifically the Dingle peninsula. I went last Sunday and it was beautiful. To go there, it’s a bit difficult with public transportation (yay Ireland) but Witness Ireland, a company that organises day trips around Ireland, offers tours there, and it’s worth it. The tour costs 50 euros which might seem a bit expensive but considering the time you would lose getting there with public transportation it’s really not that bad. We left at 9 a.m. from People’s park and left Dingle at 5 p.m. During the day we visited a lot of beautiful beaches and saw many beautiful landscapes.
The Inch Beach
Our first stop was the Inch Beach. It was a bit cloudy but still amazing. It seemed like the water never stopped and merged with the sky. It was a great mix of Irish landscape with the beach, the water and the cliffs behind us.
It was a bit foggy, but it was still very pretty. Hold a baby lamb
This was our second stop and the one we were the most excited about and the reason why we booked the trip in the first place. The landscape was, once again, breathtaking and this time, it was sunny. We had the chance to hold a baby lamb– they are adorable. However, this experience was a bit disappointing. There were around 15 lambs in a very small space, and no one was really checking how many people were going in or whether the animals were being handled properly. It felt a bit uncomfortable, especially with so many people at the same time.
The lambs were adorable and so soft. The Slea head drive
Most of the journey was along Slea Head Drive, a very narrow road along the coast. If you are afraid of heights, this might not be the best time to look out the window but maybe it’s also a chance to overcome that fear. The views were absolutely incredible, with the ocean stretching endlessly into the distance. It was truly worth it.
Coumeenole Beach
Another stop was Coumeenole Beach, a wild and beautiful place surrounded by cliffs and the ocean. When we arrived, we saw a dead dolphin on the beach, which was a bit shocking. However, it also reminded us that if you are luckier, you might get the chance to see marine life in a more positive way. Despite the cold, my friends and I decided to run into the water, it was freezing, but really fun and a great memory.
Star Wars
Yes, as you may or may not know, some Star Wars movies were filmed there. If you haven’t seen any of the movies, that’s okay, you’ll see signs everywhere saying that Star Wars was filmed there. Just take a photo and send it to your friends who are obsessed with it.
The Three Sisters
If these breathtaking landscapes haven’t taken your breath away yet, I don’t know what will. Sea, mountains, and sunshine, what else do you need?
Dingle Town
The Dingle tour is not called a Dingle tour if you don’t make a stop in the town. There, you can eat fish and chips, but the must-try is their ice cream. You may have seen Murphy’s Ice Cream in some cities; it is originally made in Dingle. We waited to get there to try it. Worth it! I took the cookie one, delicious but for the more adventurous they also have a flavour called sea salt, which is surprisingly good.
Overall, I highly recommend this trip as it was one of the best experiences I’ve had. If you go with Witness Ireland, be prepared to spend quite a bit of time on the bus, as these places are pretty remote compared to the city, but honestly, the views make the journey part of the experience.
